Which of the original FF games (I-VI) do you like best. Use the Japanese numbering so no one gets confused. In other words, if you played the original SNES games when they released in the US, II is IV and III is VI.
For me, it's FFVI, without question. The story in that game is golden. Each fo the characters are interesting. And I love how there is no true lead role. Every character was important. No one hogged the spotlight. In fact, you only need three of the characters in your party in order to end the game. And neither of them are the first three party members you get. And while every character could learn the same magic spells and use the same summons, and were thus customizable, each of their unique abilities made them drastically different characters in battle. Edgar's tools and Sabin's blitzes were especially helpful, and Celes' runic ability got me out of a few tight spots with some tough spellcasting bosses. Finally, Kefka owns ever Final Fantasy villain ever. The man actually wins. The entire party gives up. Kefka reduces the world to ruins and rules over it as a god. He's just awesome. He's also the only FF villain than actually induces the same emotional responses in me that he did in the characters. Any character than can do that is just awesomely written. |

VI for me as well. The story was indepth and intriguing. All of the main characters had interesting personalities and backgrounds, and I liked how there wasn't just one who the story revolved around. And I liked how the characters were unique, but you could still customize them however you wanted. Kefka is my favorite villain. He's just crazy and godly. He had lots of laughable lines. And he succeeds, which is rare for villains.
Bumrush=best move ever.

While I love FFVI to death, I give it to FFIV. It was the first RPG ever to give personalities to players. It also was the start of Real Time Gaming which I prefer over the easy FFX Turned Based Gaming.
