I'm hosting a Lan party at my house, but I haven't bought a Ethernet Hub, router, or switch. Now they say the switch and router are better with a large amount of xbox's, but I'm just having a party of 4 and would rather buy a simple Ethernet hub, but I don't want to buy one if it isn't going to do the job good. Has anyone else hosted a Lan Party? Can you help me if so.

It's best to go with what is suggested. Four people should be safe with an ether net hub I think, but I don't a lot about the xbox system and it might just be best to get what was suggested to you. If you want I'll do some hoofing around the various tech forums I subscribe to, and see if that question pops up and was resolved.

I've been to several LAN parties, and I think it is usually best to go with an ethernet switch, or whatever is a big box full of ethernet plugs. That way, you can keep everybody in the same room and there wouldn't be any possible unforeseen problems. I personally haven't set these things up, so I'm not 100% of what to do.

I checked around and it is generally agreed that an ethernet hub is the best thing to use. There is no lag due to signal interference because the ethernet is only based on cables, and you can connect as many xbox's as you have ethernet ports. The thing about wireless routers is that the tiniest things will slow them down so it's best to avoid using them. I'm not just talking about radio waves and things like that, but even the wires in your wall if they are getting a lot of use. I speak from experience.
One time i tried to play Starcraft on my computer using a wireless router to connect to our internet, and the moment my dad turned on the toaster and oven i lost signal. That was a bad day. -_- Bottom line, when you can use cables. The only draw back i can see from using an ethernet hub is if you have like 50 xbox's for this part, and don't have enough ports. Otherwise it looks like the better choice.
