Kingdom Hearts 3 Will Not be the Next Release
Thanks to one of our readers, we’ve been provided with the following news from Examiner and VGChartz. Nomura’s recent interview with Japanese magazine, Famitsu, has given fans some seriously unsettling news about the future of the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
Another Spin Off Title
According to the most recent information, while Nomura has stressed that he and his team want to release Kingdom Hearts 3, knowing full well that is what their fans are looking for, it will not be the next video game to come out under the Kingdom Hearts title. In fact, the next game to hit stores will not star Sora at all, but another character of equal importance to the story, which will connect all of the tales together. No further news regarding the game’s title, characters or platform has been mentioned.
Yearly Releases
Nomura also said that ideally, he would like to release a new Kingdom Hearts game every year, in order to keep fans happy. Presumably, the next game would be this mystery title, coming out in 2011. When asked about Kingdom Hearts 3 being released in 2012, if a new game was to indeed come out every year, Nomura refused to comment.

Let us know what you think of this news. Personally, I’m a bit wary. Two spin off games is about my limit before I simply want to be reunited with Sora, Donald and Goofy, and frankly, a new RPG game every year sounds like bad news. Trying to put out a game so magical, like Kingdom Hearts, year after year will just burn Square Enix out and the last thing any fan wants is to see their hero fall to the enemy, ‘god-awful game.’ If something is going to be great, I can wait for it.

I agree with the above stated opinion. I prefer quality over quantity. If something great comes from doing all you can to perfect a game, I can wait for that. I don’t want to see a million mediocre Kingdom Hearts games, and then look back only to miss the old ones.
That would be the greatest dissapointment for me.
I agree that one every year isnt that good , but if you think about it the only reason they took so long to release birth by sleep is becouse they were working on 358/2 days, coded, bbs, and fanil fantasy 13 at the same time, so if they focus on 1 game they could finish it in 1 and a half to 2 years . and i dont wanna wait too long for another game cause i myt just loose interest after 5 years
Ya, Id also have to agree. KH is an incredible phenomenon That SE got lucky on. The only reason Final Fantasy is successful with having release after release is because each story is different. So far the most a FF story has branched out to is a single sequal, with XIII supposedly having two different spin-offs. But taking such a great thing as Kingdom Hearts and releasing a spin-off/sequal just for the sake of keeping a “good thing” going is nothing short of following Gainax (or whoever owns the rights to Eva now) example of milking the cash cow dry with their “digital release”, “digital platinum release”, “re-digitized digital digited release”, “extended RELEASE ’cause that girl that likes to catch cards said so”. I love KH to death, but i would quickly grow tired of any more spin-offs that include Olympus Colosium yet AGAIN with Hercules acting like this is the first time hes ever seen visitors. Good stories MUST come to an end, otherwise its not a story, its pokemon.
true dat Varxtis. i mean pokemon was the best anime ever untill they got greedy and kept it goin, they should have stopped after the season that had the pokemon from the crystal pokemon game. i dont wanna see that happen to kingdom hearts either. but we could still get 1 or 2 more games for KH plus Namura sed that the next game is going to be about sum1 new so lets see how gud his/her story is.
Pokemon just got boring. Team Rocket still goes “WE’RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!!” Hopefully, Kingdom Hearts don’t end up like the Saw series, the Crash Bandicoot game series or the Spyro series. It would be nice to know about another Kingdom Hearts game. Who knows! Maybe it will be about how the keyblade came into existence and how the world ended up splitted because of darkness and the fight over the light.
O man if theres a new game every year then they wont be as good
because all the awesome games like birth by sleep take alot of time to make but that wait pays off
and OMG another new character this better be good and tie into the story well or i cant stand it

There is no date of release for KH3. We don’t know. Square hasn’t told and may not even know themselves.

I love KH, really, but putting out a new game every year? By the time it’s over, things will have gone so far down, that the KH name will be in shame. Right now I’m upset at Nomura because no KH game has come out for a REAL console. I really don’t want to spend $130 on a PSP just to see Terra, Ventus, and Aqua, they should come out with a game for the PS3, XBOX360, Wii, or when in doubt, go back to PS2. Really.
tbh i would love it if they did just one more spin-off game on the wii, and then finished up the series with Kingdom Hearts 3 on ps3 and xbox360, and a lower graphics version on ps2. It would also be good if they put kingdom hearts coded on ds, because i don’t think it will be very popular on mobile phones.

I must agree about the games on phones. I think epic games like KH being put onto phones to be played is one of the biggest wastes of time possible. They should be kept to the consoles where they belong.

If they are going to make a new KH, i just wish it could be on the PS3 or Xbox cuz if there is another one thats handheld played, i’ll get frustrated with the disrespect it has for being a handheld…

how can they make another kh without keeping it going cuz they obviously cant use xehanort again cuz hes got to be ended with by now so if theres gonna be a new kh, theres gotta be a new enemy and that will probably lead to new creatures and that enemy going for kingdom hearts… a new game of k is almost predictable much, wouldnt you agree
