Nomura Interview Mentions New Game
We recently announced that, according to an interview done with Nomura, Kingdom Hearts 3 was not going to be the next game announced in the series. Courtesy of Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, we have a translated version of that interview’s main points.
Interview
– We’re anxious when it comes to the next title in the series.
Nomura: To start with, there is the overseas version of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The general specifications for it have been settled. We intended to put in a “Critical Mode” in the battle system. The bosses we felt were a little weak have become stronger. We also thought that the attack “Mega Flare” was too strong so there are plans to regulate it as well. The various circumstances of the cut scenes will change too, they will return more to the original plan. They will be adjusted so that way the story is easier to understand and supplementary parts will be added.
– It seems like there are various changes being made. May we be expecting a Final Mix version?
Nomura: As for that, it depends on how much the domestic version changes. However, since we basically want to produce one title a year for the Kingdom Hearts series, I don’t plan on going several years without releasing news.
– In another 2 years it’ll be the 10th anniversary of the series. How about Kingdom Hearts 3?
Nomura: Haha I can’t talk about that, it’s a secret! As I’ve said before, the next release relates to the mystery of the series.
– Do you see the complete series concluding in KH3?
Nomura: Kingdom Hearts has been Sora’s story, but the series is currently expanding, it’s also the story of another person. Right now, you could say “that person is the center of the series”.
– The series is currently expanding!?
Nomura: I can’t say anymore than that. (Laughs)
– Are there any other titles in the works?
Nomura: With everything going on, I can say there is one title being prepared for public announcement; the advertisement department is already discussing it with me. Please look forward to more about it.
Who Is The Mystery Character?
Well, with the advertising groups already ramping up for a new Kingdom Hearts campaign, what are we fans to think? Many of us have already discussed our concerns about a new game every year, but not so much about this ‘mystery character’ who is getting to be a protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts universe.
One has to wonder where in the timeline this new game will be set. Back in the past like Birth by Sleep, or maybe after Kingdom Hearts 2? Who thinks the character will be someone that was previously introduced? Any logical choices?
I’m very excited to know that steps are being taken to do a public announcement of the game, even though I’m anxious in regards to too many releases and the series stalling out. I can’t help but be curious!
1st!!! i think that we havent seen the new protagonist yet because every1 in kh that weve seen hasnt played that big a part in it and the ones that do r from final fantasy eg leon(squal), yufi, cloud.
as 4 the timeline, its completely unpridictable becouse we dont even know wat part he plays in everything, but this new game better be as good as the rest cause i dont want sum new hero who sucks.

I can only speculate who this character could be. While the entire series has been based around Sora all this time, I would probably assume that it is one of the characters already introduced. As for who that could be, there is one for sure. Mickey. Although I hope that he’s not the mystery character, it would be an intersting twist. However, there’s also Riku. As those of us who played the first game know, the Keyblade for a moment chose Riku over Sora.
I haven’t the slightest clue as to who it could be, but my guess would be Riku. And that, I would be very happy with.

I’m aware this article is similar to the news of the No KH3 Article, but updates from Square have been slow and when I found the actual interview, with a bit more information in it from the mouth of the genius that is Nomura himself, I thought it would be worth sharing with other fans. Am I right?

I’d be more than happy with playable Riku again! He was the best part of Chain of Memories, in my opinion. But yeah, I’m really… expecting anything… I don’t even know where to begin speculating.

It’s got to be Xehanort. Every game has gone back to him. The first game was dominated by his heartless, the second by his nobody, and (spoilers) he played a HUGE part in BBS. He’s as central a character to the series as Sora is.

Its going to be Xehanort or Ven. I think Riku is too obvious. Another character it very well could be is Ansem the Wise. Or the new Master in BBS. But Xehanort, Vanitas, and Ven are definetly up there.
Hawkear beat me to it, that’s who I would guess. If not him, then perhaps a character who is the first keyblade master ever?
i dont think it will be ansem the wise because of what happened to him at then end of kingdom hearts 2, but my moneys on either ven or xehanort. maybe both. im guessing ven has a very strong connection with sora and xehanort is the central and ultimate villain
Xahanort…hmmm. That’s an interesting prospect. It’s true that everything has up to this point led straight back to him. Not to mention it’s a pretty good idea. Imagine if Xahanort used to be a Keyblade Master. That’d be quite the twist.
However, I don’t know how positively that would effect the story. It could wind up complicating things even more. And it’s already complicated enough.
if the new game is based on the making of the keyholes and how the world ended up seperate, then I would definitely would play it.

ok why are you all thinking of charakters that were already playable and the story of them was already revealed. Im meaning bbs had revealed the whole storys of terra ven and aqua. I hope the 3rd Kingdom hearts will be connected to coded and explain some things. (because i cant really understand the whole story of coded, i know axel, roxas, xion, terra, ven, aqua, etc. must been saved but i have the feeling of a deeper meaning behind that….)
Hm. I hate it when they give interviews with little to not enough info or supposed ‘hints’ that dont hint at anything at all.
I dont like the idea of a new game every year. I would rather that they take their time on it and make it enjoyable to play more than 1 time.
I hope its not Xehanort. I’m not really feelin a game with him as the star of it. I’m sure it would be somewhat interesting, but him as the main character? Nah.
well too bad sora was my favorite character but since he is replased i hope its going to be someone like leon or cloud
by the way it will be realy cool if there are missions in wich you meet sora or something like that
